Home team Platinum FC emerged victorious at the finals of the 2012 Guinness Street Challenge Small Goals Football competition, which took place recently at the Cacabef in Vieux Fort.
The Vieux Fort outfit got past defending champions Fantastic of Soufriere in the finals 1-0. The lone and winning goal came from former national midfielder the veteran Douglas “Ti Goat” Marcellin.
Before a very good crowd which witnessed the grand finals, Platinum FC had defeated Guyanese in the semi-finals 2-1, while last year’s champions Fantastic got past Summertime 2-0 in the other semi-final.
In the third place play off, Summertime defeated Guyanese 2-1.
For their victory, Platinum FC receive $3,000, a full team kit from Guinness and a chance to represent St Lucia at the grand Caribbean finals of the 2012 Guinness Street Challenge small goals competition from June 20-24 in Guyana.
Second placed Fantastic received $2,000, third placed Summertime took home $1,000 and fourth placed Guyanese received sponsors products. Sixteen teams from nine qualifying rounds took part in the grand finals.
The goal scorer in the finals for Platinum FC, former national player Douglas “ti goat” Marcellin was elated at the victory and especially with getting the chance to represent St Lucia at the grand Caribbean Finals in Guyana.
