PM turns to Washington on Visa Revocation

In an HTS report on Friday MP for Micoud North Jeannine Compton-Antoine announced that the United States embassy had revoked the diplomatic and travel visa for Castries Central MP Richard Frederick. Compton-Antoine did not reveal her sources but an HTS follow up report on Monday confirmed with the US embassy’s Consular Officer for Public Affairs Rebecca Ross that the information was correct.

The information has sparked mixed reaction from the Saint Lucia public with Frederick supporters rallying around the MP amid calls for him to resign.

Speaking to the media on Monday Chairperson of Castries Central constituency office Angel Brouet said that Frederick was being targeted because he had exposed the Grynberg issue.

Said Brouet: “We shall stand by him with ful confidence that Richard Frederick is not who they make him out to be. This is a man who has demonstrated a passion for helping people. He is a hard worker and has transformed not only the city but the lives of almost every person whom he has represented.”

In a statement released on Monday Prime Minister Stephenson King has this to say:

“It has been brought to my attention that the United States (US) Embassy in Barbados recently revoked the diplomatic and resident visas of Housing Minister Richard Frederick.

“I have received no details or explanation as to the reasons for the US Embassy’s decision. I am aware that numerous unproven allegations have been made against Honourable Richard Frederick from the time he indicated a willingness to enter politics.

“I have instructed our diplomatic representatives in Washington to investigate this highly sensitive and urgent matter and report back to me at the soonest.  I look forward to meeting with the media as soon as further information has been received.”
