Police capture Commercial Volleyball Title

Eastern Caribbean Financial Holdings (ECFH) were banking on winning their second consecutive St Lucia Chamber of Commerce Commercial Volleyball League Championship; however the Royal St Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) robbed them of that opportunity in the recent final played at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.

After a disappointing exit in last year’s tournament, RSLPF regrouped and were impressive in the preliminary round going undefeated. In the final they came out with guns blazing and defeated highly touted ECFH in straight sets. The scores were 25-22, 25-18 and 25-12.

Their Captain Daryl Evans along with national player and teammate Dayne Williams were impressive in victory.

Commenting on the match Evans said: “It was very exciting and brought out the best in my teammates. For the past few weeks we trained hard and were able to accomplish our goal which was to be victorious in this tournament.”

ECFH had no answer for the police team and they certainly did not help themselves by committing numerous unforced errors.

Ministry of Education won the third playoff without breaking a sweat. That’s because Coffee and Beverages were not able to field a team due to a multitude of injuries.

In the awards ceremony following the finals, Dayne Williams (RSLPF) was named the MVP while Gifta Dujon Francois (ECFH) was crowned Female MVP.

Following in order of finish are the final standings: Royal St Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), East Caribbean Financial Holdings (ECFH), Ministry of Education (MOE), Coffee & Beverage Services (CBS), Goddard Group of Companies (GGSL), National Research and Development Foundation (NSDC), Consolidated Foods Limited (CFL), Windward & Leeward Brewery (WLBL) and Water and Sewage Company (WASCO).

Looking back at the competition President of the St Lucia Volleyball Association Brian Louisy said: “We are pretty pleased with the final turnout and feel we are achieving our objective, of getting persons who traditionally do not play the sport to do so and at the same time build friendly rivalry between companies and also getting them to build team spirit by participating.”

Louisy was impressed with the level of play and based on the performance of some former national players did not rule out the possibility of inviting them back to try out.
