Our Police are becoming a force to contend with on the sports scene. Recently the Royal St Lucia Police Force won the Commercial League Volleyball title and before that placed second in the Regional Security Services Cricket Competition held at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
Their most recent conquest came on Sunday at the Wenn Playing Field where they defeated Malgretoute to win the 2014 St Lucia National Cricket Association(SLNCA) Inter Club 50 Over Championship.
The lawmen defeated Malgretoute Youth Movement by 71 runs before a lively and appreciative crowd. Winning the toss and batting first, Police recovered from 105 for six to post 258. Their total was due largely to a measured 51 from Magaran Joseph and a stroke filled 39 from Edly George and a late flurry of 40 from Alvin Prospere.
Captain Craig Emmanuel, three for 37 and off spinner Kurt Sealy, three for 66, were Malgretoute’s best bowlers.
Needing 259 for victory, Malgretoute fell 71 runs short, being dismissed for 187. Walter Emmanuel played a brief cameo, before he was caught off Alleyne Prospere for 44. Claudius Emmanuel 39 and Andius Hippolyte 29 also made useful contributions.
At the prize giving ceremony which followed the final the following awards were presented: Tom T Rentals Best Batsman of the Final – Magaran Joseph (51 runs); Ronin Security Best Bowler of the Final – Alleyne Prospere (seven for 40); Richie Auto Rentals /Holiday Taxi MVP of the Final – Alleyne Prosper (26 runs and seven for 40); Runners up silver medals sponsored by Garey Mathurin – Malgretoute Youth Movement; Winners Plaque and Gold Medals Sponsored by Garey Mathurin – Police.
