Police make two drug busts in island’s north

The latest police operation was not executed as those previously publicized by local media such as the raid on Wilton’s Yard some weeks ago.
On Thursday March 16, around 2pm, a convoy of at least three marked and unmarked police vehicles signaled an area in the north for the raid.  The perimeter in Beausejour was cordoned off with plain clothes cops.  Those on the inside were adorned with M16 rifles. There was a lot of activity on the compound with cops moving arduously back and forth carrying a variety of tools.
Several hours later the operation was still underway.  A small number of civilians were also on the compound along with a member of the legal fraternity.  A fire engine was summoned.
Information reaching the STAR indicates the police also searched the residence of the proprietor as well.  In all 93.9 lbs of compressed marijuana, equivalent to 42.6kilos, were recovered during the operation valued at EC$75,200. The drugs were concealed in several metal drums containing a large amount of dish-washing liquid.  As a result, the businessman was taken into custody and arrested. Earlier on that Thursday, the police conducted an operation at an apartment in Rodney Heights where a quantity of 26 kilos of cocaine at an approximate value of EC$405,000 was recovered.  Two persons were arrested during the operation and they are currently in police custody.
