Police officer intercepts robbery

On Monday 16th July 2012, about 8:30 pm, officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department responded to an incident which occurred on Reclamation Ground, Castries.

Information indicates that 27 year old Nazarius Bellase of Mon Ciseaux being armed with a cutlass robbed 35 year old Sebastian Romain of Rockhall with a cutlass.

During the process, Sebastian Romain sustained cutlass wound to the head. He was taken to Victoria Hospital where he was treated and admitted.

At the time a plain clothed police officer was in the vicinity and intercepted the crime. Nazarius Bellase sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to Victoria Hospital. He was treated and admitted in a critical condition.

About 11:30 pm on Monday 16th July, 2012, Nazarius Bellase succumbed to his injury whilst at Victoria Hospital.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
