Power Breakfast with HR Manager a Success

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]R Managers from among members of the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture participated in a Human Resource Forum as part of the Chamber’s Power Breakfast series of engagements with members.

Under the theme “What Keeps You Up at Night” the Chamber sort to a firm understanding of what are the critical issues in Human Resource Management which confront members and what and how they wished the Chamber to assist them address them.

According to President Martin Dorville, “this new initiative is part of the Chamber’s effort to achieve its vision; To be an impactful member focused organization directly contributing to St. Lucia becoming the place of choice to do business and enabling members to improve business performance”.

The HR Managers also recognized the HR Forum as an excellent vehicle for networking, sharing information and resources while collaborating in building the HR Management Profession.

The Forum identified the following as critical areas where the Chamber should act:

  1. Advocate for necessary changes and remain fully engaged in discussions on the Labour Code
  2. Seek to impact the curriculum at SALCC and get involved in career guidance at Secondary Schools, while seeking to develop a well- structured internship/apprenticeship program
  3. Facilitate the establishment of an HR Association in St. Lucia

Meanwhile the HR Forum agreed that the Chamber should continue to engage the HR Managers through this forum to help create networking, Professional Development, sharing of information and exposure of locals skills and knowledge through, talks, luncheon presentations and even Business After Hours sessions.

As a more immediate task the Chamber will seek to help identify and qualify local trainers through consortium financing and collaboration of member companies so local trainers can deliver internationally recognized training in various fields. The Chamber will also continue to identify and source funding to implement high value training for Member Companies.
