The 27-year-old man accused of murdering former Carnival Queen contestant Alisha Hunte made his second appearance in court. On June 8, the defendant and his attorney were at the Gros Islet
court for case management. The magistrate ruled that the case be sent to the High Court.
The defendant will appear on September 23 in the High Court for his Sufficiency Hearing. At the hearing, the Crown will present the facts of the case and the judge will then decide whether the case will go to trial.
Around 5pm on May 18, the deceased’s roommate found her body at their Trouya home. Police estimated the 22-year-old had died hours before, around midday. A suspect appeared at the Gros Islet Police Station that very night along with his attorney. A post mortem on Monday, May 23 revealed Hunte died of hemorrhagic shock secondary to multiple stab wounds. On Tuesday May 24, the suspect was charged with her murder. On Wednesday May 25, the defendant attended court for the first time in this matter.
The defendant has been remanded to custody.
