RC Jam 2011 a hit!

Hundreds of patrons congregated on the grounds of the St Aloysius RC Boys’ Primary School for its annual RC Jam calypso competition held Thursday 30th June 2011. Eleven boys participated in this event. There were three independent segments in this year’s RC Jam Calypso competition namely; calypso, groovy and soca. This was done to give students an opportunity to enhance their skills with various forms of music which form part of our carnival. However the main emphasis is placed on calypso.
The participants in this year’s RC Jam Calypso competition were Mini Me, Protestor, Jhamali, Cave Man, Lil Nick, Litch, Mighty Red, DI, Mateo and the defending monarch Stinger. Ten of the participants took part in the calypso round, two in the groovy segment and five in the soca segment. They were backed up by the Take That All Stars lead by Dyson Imbert from the Royal St Lucia Police Band. The audience were well entertained by the artiste who put on spectacular performances. Patrons were also treated to performances from Invader, Teddison John, Alpha, Superman HD and Ricky T.
At the end of the competition, Mighty Red was awarded the prized for best Groovy, Lil Nick became the soca King and Stinger retained his title as RC Jam Calypso King 2011.
The school would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants and their parents for their hard work and dedication. Also to the guest artiste who made a significant contribution to the standard of the event. The school extends its sincere gratitude to all those who saw it necessary to contribute and sponsor this event. Without them this event would not have been possible. In order for the artform to survive, the artform must be inculcated in our young people. Hence, the St Aloysius RC Boys’ Primary School hopes to continue grooming young men for the Calypso arena and making its contribution to St Lucia’s Carnival.
