The Saint Lucia Female Rugby Team opened the Tobago Seven’s with three straight losses against Atlanta Harlequins, Samurai Beavers B and Rugby Ecosse who are all very experienced teams.
The tournament wrapped up on day two, Sunday, with a knock out, where the Lucian ladies went down two tries to one against Guyana.
It was not all a walk over for the experienced teams. Our ladies made it difficult for them with pressure and hard hitting from captain Renetta Fredericks, Chantel John, Paulyn Eugene, Marline Cherry and Electra Marcelle. As expected 13 year-old Chyenne Samuels had a tremendous tournament putting in some hits of her own.
The tournament was eventually won by Canada Maple Leafs for the women and New York City Seven’s for the men.
The experience for the ladies was priceless, opening their eyes to the levels they have to reach. They are all ready to work hard and improve themselves.
The St Lucia Rugby Football Union thank everyone who made this trip possible: Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Saint Lucia National Lottery Authority, LUCELEC, St Lucia Teacher’s Credit Union and all others individual sponsors.
