RETURNING GUESTS SUPPORT EDUCATION IN ST. LUCIA

A couple, who has been visiting St. Lucia for the past ten years, continues to lead fundraising efforts for schools on the island.

With the help of their residents, friends, family and colleagues back home in the United Kingdom (UK), Barry and Christine Scott’s last four visits to St. Lucia have included over £10,000 of charitable donations to local schools.

Students and teachers of the Roseau Combined School were the most recent beneficiaries of supplies worth £2,500 – approximately EC$10,750.

“On behalf of our residents at Napleton Court and Victoria Villa sheltered housing which is part of Orbit Sheltered Housing and Retirement Living back in the UK, and all those who supported our Quiz Nights, raffles and other fundraisers, we are extremely pleased to make this donation to you. We love visiting St. Lucia and the many people we have met over the years,” said the couple, who stay at Sandals Halcyon.

Their donation included an LCD projector, books, sporting equipment and other supplies to the school that has a student population of close to 150.

“We are very thrilled with this donation, which will go a long way in aiding the educational pursuits of our students. A number of our children are from humble family backgrounds so the school supplies will no doubt be very helpful to them and their parents,” said Brenda Joseph, Literary Coordinator at Roseau Combined School.

The Sandals Foundation facilitated the distribution of items to Roseau Combined School, which is one of 26 schools in the Caribbean that have been adopted by the organization.

The Sandals Foundation continues to support educational development in the Caribbean through a number of initiatives including donations of school supplies; the construction of computers labs, libraries, and other infrastructural upgrades to schools, community and the environment.

The non-profit organization also provides scholarships for students.

One hundred percent of the monies contributed by the general public to the Sandals Foundation goes directly to programs benefiting the Caribbean community.
