Rotaract Celebrates 28 Years

 

Rotaract celebrates 28 years in St Lucia.

The Rotaract Club of St Lucia will this year celebrate its 28th anniversary. The club was chartered by the Rotary Club of St Lucia on April 22 1985. Rotaract, a branch of the Rotary family, is an international service organization for young men and women aged 18 – 30, that fosters leadership.

The club’s main objective is to serve the community and staying true to this objective,  plans activities that will benefit less fortunate persons and communities. Initiatives include donating groceries and other items to the Comfort Bay Elderly Home, constructing a storage room for the Dunnattor School, hosting spelling bee competitions for grade 10 students and youth development seminars on essential topics that relate to the youth. They’ve also built and donated lunch tables to Gros Islet and Soufriere primary schools.

The club promotes professional development and leadership skills of members and in that egard, hosts meetings that educate on VAT, project management, financial management, public speaking, conflict management and team building techniques.

The club will put on a week of activities to celebrate its 28th charter anniversary under the theme: “Illuminating The Path For Future Leaders”. The week (21 – 27 April) will begin with a church service at La Clery Catholic Church where a food hamper will be donated to a needy family in the community. During the week they are expected to make a donation to a recent fire victim. There will be increased public awareness on the objective of Rotaract in hopes of recruitin new members. The celebrations will culminate with the grand charter dinner, on April 27, where a general report on the execution of plans and objectives will be given and the incoming executive for the 2013-2014, presented.

There are more than 7000 Rotaract Clubs in about 155 countries worldwide.

Rotaract clubs organize a variety of service projects and professional & leadership development activities.
