On Thursday May 12, 2016 a media press brief was hosted by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force at the Conference Room of the Crime Management Building. Assistant Commissioner of Police in Charge Of Crime Management, Mr. Milton Desir, addressed the media in light of the alleged rape incident involving four alleged victims – two females and two young men at the Derek Walcott Square, in addition to other important updates.
At approximately 7:30p.m. on Friday 6th May, 2016 a bizarre incident was reported to have occurred at the DWS in Castries. At least one perpetrator is said to have forced the two young men to perform oral sex on the women with the assailant himself violating the two women. It has been reported that while this transpired, two accomplices stood nearby until the culprit completed the act.
The distraught females were taken to hospital after the police were informed of the matter.
Since the incident the RSLPF has stated that it will maximize the use of its resources in an effort to swiftly apprehend the alleged perpetrator(s) of this crime and bring them to justice.
“It is sad and unacceptable for our young persons to be preyed on while they enjoy the ambiance of such a historic national landmark, the Derek Walcott Square. Such alleged acts do no more than bring shame on our law-abiding citizens who would in no way condone such an act of criminality. The RSLPF has taken steps, and will continue to take steps, to ensure the safety of the general public against such heinous acts and other crimes in Saint Lucia,” a police statement says.
At Thursday’s press briefing the police, however, indicated that there was a decrease in firearm offences so far for the year.
Offences against property are 1,166 reported this year, with 375 solved. Last year 2,269 were reported, with 430 solved.
In relation to drug offences there was also a decrease recorded with 39 so far for the year.
So far a recorded 10 homicides have been registered for 2016.
The issue of a number of brazen rape and sexual offences, which has been on the increase for this year, continues to be a worrying issue for crime-fighters and the general public.
