Rubis Supports Online Learning In St Lucia

Rubis continues to play its part to assist St. Lucians during the COVID-19 pandemic, with their support of the Ministry of Education. The energy company recently provided the students of some of the island’s primary and secondary schools with 19 HP laptops and 10 tablets. The devices will be used to enable the students to continue their studies in an online environment.

Shervon Mangroo, Principal of Fond St. Jacques Primary School explained, “The online method of teaching and learning is fairly new to the St. Lucian students and teachers and some students are at a disadvantage because they do not own or have access to technological devices.”

She thanked Rubis for their kind contribution which will see tablets going to Fond St. Jacques Primary School and the laptops to the first to fourth form students at Soufriere, Babonneau and Ciceron Secondary Schools. The presentation of the tablets is part of a regional company initiative by Rubis to assist the countries in which they operate across the Eastern Caribbean in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chriselda Norbal, Assistant Account Executive explained, “With students being home-schooled via digital media as a result of COVID-19, the lack of devices had severely affected their ability to continue their vital course work preparation and we knew that Rubis had to assist.”

Ms. Norbal confirmed this presentation was the third major contribution Rubis has made as part of their local COVID-19 support efforts. She said, “A few weeks ago our team supported the safety of our first responders with a donation to the Ministry of Health with a total of 6000 items of protective equipment including surgical gloves, KN95 and surgical masks.” Rubis also recently donated $20,000 in Ultra Tec fuel to the Government for use by the national police and emergency services.
