Sagicor Supports St. Lucia Cancer Society

In the ongoing fight against breast cancer, it is widely acknowledged and accepted that early detection goes a long way towards saving lives., This is why Sagicor continues to support the breast screening and awareness programmes of the St. Lucia Cancer Society.

This year, the leading insurance company donated EC$5,000 to the Society, the result of funds raised from its set of awareness activities during October, which is globally referred to as ‘Pinktober’.

As part of its activities, Sagicor designed and produced special T-Shirts with the message “#CheckYoursOut”, which were purchased by team members and worn on designated days during the month. The company also purchased “Let’s Get Em Checked” T-Shirts produced by the Cancer Society, with team members donating EC$5 each, whenever the shirt was worn.

Eon Phillips, Assistant Vice President for EC Insurance Operations and the Branch Manager and Principal Representative for Sagicor Life (Eastern Caribbean) Inc., said this year’s activities were a continuation of the productive relationship with the Cancer Society.

“We have worked together and executed a number of awareness activities with the Cancer Society over several years, and we were happy once again to be able to provide support to their ongoing efforts. This year we focused on promoting the use of breast self-examinations with our #CheckYoursOut campaign, by bringing awareness towards the importance of screening for early detection”, said Phillips. “Our team certainly embraced their role in spreading the message, by sharing information and tips with their family, friends and our clients, understanding that this disease can only be beaten if we all play our part.”

In addition to wearing the shirts and donating, team members also participated in a Pinktober themed “Wacky Wednesday”, while the Choc Estate located Head Office was “pinked out” for the month.
