The Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) has announced that as a result of the continued threat of COVID-19, all non-essential visits to fire stations are suspended until further notice. “Due to the hazardous nature of the activities carried out at fire stations, combined with our officers being first responders to confirmed and suspected COVID-19 calls, we are endeavoring to limit the possible risks of transmission between the public and our officers and vice versa,” the SLFS indicated in a statement today.
Effective immediately, the following activities will not be allowed:
-vending on premises
-non-work related visitations/ tours of fire appliances, equipment or station compounds
Outlining safety protocols, the SLFS called on the public to cooperate with the organisation, as it seeks to safeguard the protection of officers and the general public. “Persons who walk into a fire station to request emergency medical assistance or to report an emergency, should go directly to the control room window to make such report. A face mask covering both the nose and mouth should be worn. Persons who come in to transact business in the Administrative and Fire Prevention departments of the Fire Service are also required to wear a face mask covering both the nose and mouth,” the fire service stated.
“Everyone will be subjected to a temperature check before entry into the building, as well as mandatory hand sanitization. Automatic sanitization dispensers are strategically placed within the buildings for ease of access and use.”
