Saint Lucia Fire Service celebrates 46th Anniversary!

In observance of its 46th anniversary today, Monday the Saint Lucia Fire Service released the following statement:

On this date, 46 years ago, the Saint Lucia Fire Service was born. We have progressed significantly through the years, from having 85 fire personnel and 4 fire stations located in the city of Castries, the towns of Vieux-Fort and Soufriere, and the village of Dennery, to now having an additional five fire stations and a staff complement of over 300 firefighters. Also adding to the organization, 21 civilian staff and recently, 12 EMTs to assist with COVID 19 responses.

Our message, however, remains the same. While being charged with the protection of life and property, we are also advocates for fire safety. The recent house fire in Cedar Heights, Vieux Fort, should serve as an indication to citizens, that fire safety is everyone’s business.

Installing and maintaining working smoke detectors in all enclosed spaces in your home or business, installing fire extinguishers, and formulating and practicing an evacuation plan should be paramount for every household and business place.

Let us work together, for a safer Saint Lucia. We wish all our officers and staff a Happy 46th Anniversary! For further information and/or assistance, please feel free to contact the Fire Service on telephone number 455 6100 or visit our Facebook page.
