Saint Lucia Readies for National Colours Day, Youth Exposé and Best of Saint Lucia!

The prayer, praise and worship event was held as part of this year’s Independence celebrations.

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]inister with responsibility for Culture and Local Government Senator Fortuna Belrose has called on all Saint Lucians to continue to embrace activities for Saint Lucia’s 38th Anniversary of Independence which culminates on Wednesday, February 22 2017.

On Sunday February 19, the Government of Saint Lucia hosted a successful “Prayer, Praise and Worship” session at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground with persons from several different Religious denominations in attendance.

“We had a programme which was designed to uplift us as citizens of this country,” noted Minister Belrose. “The response from the Religious community and the leaders and ministers was phenomenal. Just the opportunity for us to see each other pray and hear each other pray and to listen to the different faiths and how we all have this one belief in love and God our Creator, was significant. I just hope that Saint Lucians will stay in that mode of continuously asking for God’s intervention and guidance as we all hope to ensure that we contribute to the development of our country.”

The National Sports Awards which celebrates various achievers from all sports disciplines was also held on Saturday evening at the National Cultural Centre.

Activities for Independence 38 culminate this week with a National Colours Day on February 21st which calls on all Saint Lucians to wear the colours of the flag. The Independence Youth Exposé will also be held in the William Peter Boulevarde from 3:00pm and includes a showcase of youth talent.

Said Minister Belrose: “It is about making that commitment to changing the way things are in our society. Saint Lucia belongs to all of us and this is our time to show that we are patriotic Saint Lucians and we are part of the celebrations that are going on.”

Other activities include the Prime Minister’s Independence Ball in aid of the Upton Girls Garden Centre and several other events organized by various associations including the annual Independence Island Ride and Drive.

The theme for this year’s Independence is “I Am Saint Lucia” and the full schedule of activities is available www.govt.lc.
