Saint Lucians in the Diaspora prepare to mark Independence

The Saint Lucia House Foundation, an umbrella group of Saint Lucian organizations based in New York City, Connecticut and New Jersey, announced it has finalized its calendar of activities to celebrate Saint Lucia’s 33rd Anniversary of National Independence, under the auspices of the Saint Lucia Consulate General in New York.
This year’s commemorative activities will kick off with an ecumenical service on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Brooklyn (583 Throop Avenue at McDonough Street Brooklyn) at 1:30pm.
On Thursday, Feb 23, An Evening with Saint Lucian Artist will be held at The Saint Lucia House, 438 East 49 Street, between Church & Snyder Avenues from 7:00pm and that weekend, Feb. 25, the main celebration—an Independence Gala—will be held at Brooklyn’s Grand Prospect Hall (263 Prospect Avenue).
The 33rd Anniversary Independence Gala will feature a dinner, raffle, awards presentations and the best of Saint Lucian music, highlighted by performances by
New York-based Saint Lucian artists and DJ Eryk Natural Sounds.
This is the second independence gala organized by the Saint Lucia House Foundation since its formation in 2010. This year’s theme is “One People, One Nation, Limitless Possibilities.”
Other events have been planned throughout the tri-state area to highlight the theme. Saint Lucia gained its Independence from
Great Britain on February 22, 1979.
