Saints don’t lie, do they?

Few would confuse Francis of Assisi with Francis of the CDC, even though some may agree that both deserve their mantle of sainthood, whether thanks to a pope or a party hack. But this is hardly a laughing matter, especially after St. Francis of the CDC dropped his bombshell about a minority of men in state uniforms who are hell-bent on making the next few months the last days of the present government. Who but one specially blessed would’ve unloaded such a revelation on an already rattled people with a propensity for believing particularly bizarre stories, those without evidence especially?

But not this time. Suddenly we became a nation of Doubting Thomases. On noticing that the usually gullible Saint Lucian public was not buying into the colourful allegations, despite the earth-shattering implications, St. Francis of the CDC went scampering to the patron saint of slave plantations, St. Anthony, perchance to imbue his story with his well-known credibility. Few were surprised that St. Anthony obliged and quickly bestowed his divine endorsement on the claims of St. Francis of the CDC.

Who poked the hornet’s nest?

So what is going on now? Has the urgency of thwarting a possible take-down of the country’s leadership fizzled out just as quickly as it was raised, seemingly out of the blue? The head man in a state uniform is back on island, so is he investigating the broadcasted allegations of St. Francis of the CDC? Increasingly it appears unthinkable tales are being spawned. In fact one expects lightning speed reaction when such accusations are made against the leadership of the country. But here’s the kicker, the patron saint of slave plantations said that he would wait, all nice and composed, for this matter to be addressed.

Meantime the accused hatchers of the Operation Remove Kenny idea seem also to have gone to sleep. So, confusingly, there appears to be no urgency in getting to the bottom of this matter. An impenetrable dark cloud has descended on ORK, even as the nation waits with bated breath for the next episode of the badly conceived comedy. Did someone poke at a hornet’s nest without his protective gear? It may well be true that you cannot fool all the people all of the time. Not even in this obeah-addicted Land of Saints!
