SALCC tells Students & Faculty “Be A Light” this Suicide Prevention Day

The Counselling and Support Unit at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College will join the global effort to raise awareness of suicide and suicide prevention.

“Be the Light” is the theme chosen by the College in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day on Friday September 10, 2021.

According to PAHO, “The theme of WSPD 2021, “Creating hope through action,” reflects the need for collective, action to address this urgent public health issue. 

The Counselling Unit has organized several activities to highlight the issues that can lead to suicide. They include positive and informative messaging on the College’s social media platforms, a virtual session held via Zoom for Students and Staff from 11 a.m. on Friday as well as video messages from the College’s counsellors.

 Staff of the College will also support the efforts of the Unit by wearing yellow or orange on Friday.

Classes for the 2021/2022 Academic Year at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College resumed on Monday September 6, 2021.

The College began its onboarding of students from August 23rd and were fully prepared for the start of tuition in the online modality. Students received training in the Learning Management System used by the College, orientation and academic advising from their departments and have been enrolled into their respective courses.
