SALCC Track and Field Chanmpionships!

Lewis House came away with cheerleading title.

It was a vociferous and energetic crowd who filled the Mindoo Phillip Park to witness Thomas House practically run away with the SALCC 2011 Inter House Track and Field Championship.
Having amassed 220 points from the road race and earlier field events, the lads and ladies in yellow never turned back and increased their lead with almost every event ending the day with a massive 489 points. In second place was Lewis House with 418 points, third was Francois with 293 points while Walcott House made a lot of progress to move from 82 points prior to a final score of 220 points.
There were also impressive performances from the Antiguan, Vincentian and Barbadian athletes especially in the middle and long distances. The much anticipated Inter House Cheer Leading Competition lived up to its expectations and evoked roars of appreciation and excitement throughout.

The SALCC Southern extension thrilled the hundreds present with a magnificent display of coordination, agility and rhythmic creativity and is surely an added attraction to the games. The inter house segment featured the students from the Morne Campus who despite limited time and resources exhibited maneuvers worthy of the thunderous applause which greeted each presentation.
In the end the truly athletic and brave choreography of Lewis House won the hearts of the fans and judges alike as they demonstrated the real art in cheer leading. These included synchronized chants and gestures, formations of pyramids and towers as well as the launch of human rockets which perhaps had Principal Dr Beverly Lansiquot  and the First Aid Staff nervous and worried for a while. Francois House was second, Walcott third and Thomas this time had to settle for the fourth position.
Meet Coordinator, Gilroy Hall, was full of praise for the students and staff of the institution, who not only produced an exciting and successful event, but left the Mindoo Phillip Park in much better condition as the late “Mindoo “so rightly deserves. Hall anticipates an even bigger event in 2012 and some Colleges in the region have already confirmed their participation.
