Scheper is Athlete of the Week

High jumper Jeannelle Scheper.

South Carolina Sophomore Jeannelle Scheper from the Gamecock women’s track and field team has, been named AG South Athlete of the Week.
Scheper opened her 2012 track & field season in record form with her win in the high jump, at the recent Virginia Tech Invitational, that catapulted her to the top of the South Carolina all-time record books with a mark of 5?11 (1.82m).
The personal best mark for Scheper breaks Olympian Chelsea Hammond’s eight-year old indoor mark of 5-10. Her mark falls just three centimetres short of an NCAA Championship automatic qualifying mark and only four centimetres short of the Saint Lucia National Junior Record (1.86m).
Scheper ranks fourth in the NCAA and is the only sophomore in the country to clear over 1.80 meters so far this season.
