School of Art and Design and UK government partner to provide Creative Arts training for Saint Lucian Youth

Thirty students are expected to receive training under the Skills for Youth Employment (SkYE) Training Program through School of Art and Design. This training is funded with UK aid from the UK Government and will provide opportunities for students to receive training in Ceramics, Multi-media Animation or Computer Graphics. Each cohort will be comprised of ten students who will acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for entry-level positions in the workforce.

Under the SkYE Program, “training will be open to all young women and men, but special provision will be made for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. At least 10% of training places will be offered to young people challenged by disability. SkYE has three distinct but interrelated components:  Component One established a competitive Training Fund for public and private training providers in the four island nations to deliver packages of technical and soft skills training leading to a recognized certificate, e.g. National or Caribbean Vocational Qualification (N/ CVQ) Level 2 and above, or modules towards one. Training either helps young people already working in the relevant sector to up-skill and progress to higher level work, or helps unemployed young people develop the higher-level skills they need to quickly find and stay in work in the sector”.

Successful students of the training program will also have the opportunity to take part in internships through various employers for further development and work experience while also gaining entrepreneurial skills to open and operate their own businesses if desired.

Artwork can be but not limited to drawings, paintings, ceramics, photography, decorative art, computer graphics, digital media etc.

Deadline for submission of applications is extended to October 9 2020 to ensure interested individuals get the opportunity to apply. Students will be contacted to arrange for an interview prior to final selection of the cohort for each area. School of Art and Design Saint Lucia is pleased to provide this opportunity to the young people of St. Lucia through the funding of UK Government and will continue to assist in the creation of opportunities to develop the Creative Sector.
