Sea Island Cotton Shop is pleased to partner with the Salvation Army to provide assistance to the nation’s less fortunate citizens.
General Manager Sherma Flavius explains: “At the beginning of the year, our inventory audit revealed a large quantity of items that were no longer able to go onto our store shelves even though they are in pristine retail condition. Many items were leftovers from discontinued ranges – one size of this, another size of that. Rather than destroy the items, retail them at sale price or give them away to staff, we decided that the best possible course of action would be to donate them to a charitable organization to be made use of.”
Many disadvantaged persons lack the funds to provide an adequate wardrobe for themselves and their families, and this might hinder them in attaining economic advancement. Someone may struggle to put together an appropriate outfit for a job interview, or to meet with a banker to secure a micro-loan to start a business. With this donation (est. retail value EC$ 40,000), it is hoped that the Salvation Army can better assist those individuals and families who might need a helping hand in that regard.
A total of twenty-nine boxes of clothing were handed over to Captain Broome of the Salvation Army on Wednesday August 5, 2015. Sea Island Cotton Shop hopes that this donation goes some small distance in easing the day-to-day burdens of the needy.
