Several students injured in Mon Repos crash

Emergency personnel attend to the injured students.

Emergency personnel from the Micoud Fire Station responded to a chaotic scene at the Mon Repos bypass Friday afternoon. A bus filled with about 14 students from the Mon Repos Seventh Day Adventist School somehow toppled over.

This particular area of road was where a bridge collapsed following the passage of Hurricane Tomas in October of last year and motorists have been forced to use an old bridge. As we go to press details are still sketchy as to what exactly happened.
One person from the scene explained it this way: “The bus was packed with school kids when it entered the by-pass. It was trying to climb the hill and could not make it. The bus began rolling backwards into the ravine. The students made their way out via the back door of the bus.”

Reports are that emergency personnel showed up very quickly.

The STAR spoke with Micoud Fire Station Officer Evans who explained that the students sustained minor injuries.

“We had to be very careful with them because some had neck pain and pains in their hips and joints. We had to make sure we handled them carefully. Nearby ambulances also came to help from Dennery and Soufriere. Thankfully so far it was just scrapes and bruises but some of them are under observation,” he said.
