Police are currently conducting an investigation into the death of the 28-year-old from Rose Hill, Castries, who was shot about 7:40pm, on Sunday, December 4 at the intersection of Wilton’s Yard and Chaussee Road, Castries.
According to the police press relations department, Rameau along with three other young men, namely: 27-year-old Kerwin Vitalis of Carellie, Castries, 20-year-old Jamie Innocent of Morne Du Don, Castries and 18-year-old Kern James of New Village, Castries, were all in an area at the intersection, when two individuals who rode by on a motorcycle, fired several shots in their direction, hitting them about the body. They were taken to the Victoria Hospital where Rameau succumbed to his injuries. Innocent and James were treated and discharged while Kerwin Vitalis is currently admitted at Victoria Hospital in a stable condition.
Throughout the week, sympathetic messages came through his Facebook page from family and friends who were still in disbelief that he was really gone, and they shared songs through his page in an effort to comfort themselves and perhaps others who were also trying to come to terms with his life being cut short so unexpectedly.
Some remembered the last time they saw him; the same day of the shooting or the day before, which made it even more difficult for them to even begin to understand that he was really gone.
“I’m tired of this, when is life ever going to change?” one friend wrote about the crime situation on island that has claimed the lives of numerous young people particularly in 2011.
There were those who’d been with him until the end, literally even in those last few minutes as he fought for his life at the hospital. In the words of a friend: “Laying down next to you and hearing that machine flat line blew a fuse in my brain. You fought hard, I swear you would pull through.”
A family member added: You will surely be missed uncle! I love you and I still can’t believe you’re gone. I’m trying to be strong but I can’t control my tears.”
Even though walls didn’t talk back, friends found comfort in an online social medium where signs of life still lingered in the photos of Rameau, his young son and friends.
“I know you a fighter and I had my hopes high saying that’s just a speed bump, you’ll pull through,” another friend wrote. “Being in the hospital and watching your lifeless body seconds after the machine went off had me saying to myself maybe its jus a dream. I went home thinking I’ll wake up but never did! Rest in perfect peace.”
Police are once again appealing to anyone who may have information concerning this incident, to contact the Major Crime Unit.
