SLP says that this is “the last Christmas under Allen Chastanet”

As an election year draws near, the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) is confident that the incumbent United Workers Party (UWP) will be defeated. At the SLP’s virtual meeting earlier this week, party chairman Moses Jn. Baptiste — who criticized the government for its handling of the pandemic and health and education sectors —told Saint Lucians that “help is on the way.”

“My brothers and sisters, this is the last Christmas under Allen Chastanet and the UWP. This is the last Christmas my brothers and sisters and help is on the way!” he said. “This is the last time we will sit at our homes and think of a new year and wonder what will we do with ourselves because this is the last time that Allen Chastanet and the UWP will usher in a new year for you Saint Lucians. This is the last time.”

Encouraging Saint Lucians to “hold strain”, he went on: “Honourable Philip J. Pierre, the leader you can trust and the SLP is on the way…We are on our way to bring relief to you and to put Saint Lucians first! This is the last Christmas with Allen Chastanet and the UWP! Let’s get ready for 2021, get your ID cards. We are going to remove this government and put a caring government under the leadership of Philip J. Pierre, the leader you can trust.”

To date the SLP has endorsed 15 candidates for the upcoming election. Castries North and Castries Central are outstanding. Explaining the delay in selecting the final candidates, political leader Philip J. Pierre said: “There are so many people who want to contest for us but we are waiting to have the right choice, the right candidate. Our candidates for Castries North and Castries Central will be announced shortly. That is our team, the team for change, the team to take Saint Lucia to the other level!”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet recently reflected on his tenure in an interview with the STAR. He stated in part: “I am very proud of the plan that we had coming into government. I think because of that it has allowed us to see some of the successes we are seeing. Do I wish some of the things could have happened faster? Yes, I do…Things will be much easier the second term and that’s when people are going to see huge change in the country.”
