Soufriere man reportedly drowned

On Sunday 8th April, shocked seabathers in Soufriere watched as a body was seen floating in the water. The body was brought onto shore and the police were contacted immediately.  Police have since reported that the body was identified as Vernon Augustine aged in his late sixties who resided in Belle Vue, Soufriere. Police Press Relations Officer Innocent says Vernon Augustine’s family had reported that he had drowned.
It is advised that over the period of the Easter holidays when visiting the beach, persons should be cautious of strong currents in the water and if they are not confident swimmers then it is strongly recommend that they do not go out of their depth.
