[dropcap]S[/dropcap]aint Lucia’s most decorated athlete, Levern Donaline Spencer, continued her phenomenal season with her fifth gold medal for 2018. The way things have gone so far, this could be a banner year for St Lucia’s multi Sportswoman of the Year.
Competing on Tuesday (Jan 31) in Trinec, Czech Republic, she equaled her National Indoor Record of 1.95 metres, on her way to winning another gold medal on her European tour.
This is a very significant jump for the 2016 Pan American Gold Medalist. It tightens her position at number three on the 2018 World Indoor listing, behind the number one jumpers from Russia and Ukraine who are first and second respectively.
Last Saturday(Jan 28), Spencer competed at Hustopec, Czech Republic against a strong field consisting of 12 competitors which included the top high jumpers from Italy, Canada, Croatia, Sweden and Great Britain’s number two. On the day, the multi Sportswoman of the Year out jumped all her competitors. Spencer easily jumped over the bar at 1.93 metres on her first attempt to win the gold – a height that no one else was able to clear that day. Spencer will again be in action this weekend as she continues her tour of Europe with Germany being her next stop.
