St Lucia dominant in winning EVCA title

The victorious St Lucia Men’s Senior Volleyball team after winning the ECVA tournament.

Led by the prolific play of Tournament MVP and Mr Everything Joseph Clercent, St Lucia finished first at the conclusion of the 2012 ECVA (Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association) Men’s tournament Sunday evening at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. Playing on their home court with the crowd cheering them on, St Lucia went up against St Kitts and Nevis in the final. The home team won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-17, but gave the opposition a glimmer of hope after losing the third set 22-25. But that’s all she wrote. St Lucia wrapped up the encounter winning the fourth set 25-19 to the delight of their supporters. It should be noted that St Lucia played without their star player Jason Octave, nevertheless the team rose to the occasion with some outstanding player with the dreadlocked Clercent leading the way. With the victory St Lucia advanced to the North and Central American and Caribbean tournament in September 2013. In the third place playoff which preceded the final, Antigua Barbuda defeated Dominica 25-20, 25-13 and 25-22. French St Martin captured the fifth place playoff defeating St Vincent & the Grenadines 25-20, 25-22, 9-25 and 25-21. St Lucia not only dominated the tournament but in the prize giving ceremony that followed, received several individual awards. Clercent who looked like a man on a mission was named Most Valuable Player, Best Spiker, Best Server and Best Scorer. Teammate Julian Biscette was named Best Blocker while Benson Tertullien captured the Best Receiver award. The other awards presented went to Kemoy Percival, (St Kitts and Nevis), Best Libero; Percival Anthony (St Kitts and Nevis); Best Digger, Anthony (St Kitts and Nevis); Robinson Raye (Dominica), Best Setter.
