St Lucia Footballer Signs With New Club

Outstanding footballer Sebastien Ribot.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]t 19 years of age St Lucian Sebastien Ribot joined the Pottery family swelling the ranks of the ADA Academy. Selected from the age of 18, he received in 2017 the prize that accredited him as the Best Junior Player in his country by the St Lucia Football Association.

Ribot is the son of Michelle Ribot, proprietor of the Pink Plantation and Coal Pot Restaurant at Vigie Cove, Castries.

Sebas as he is called by many, started his football career at the Valley Soccer Academy, before joining the youth ranks of GMC United of Gros Islet. He quickly made a name for himself and was drafted onto the Under 15 District side for Gros Islet.

He was a force to be reckoned with on defense, but his team was knocked out after reaching the quarter-finals. His performance earned him a spot on the National U15 team, which went on to participate in the CONCACAF U15 tournament in 2014.

In 2015 at the age of 15, Ribot again made the U18 Gros Islet District team who went on to win the National U18 Tournament undefeated. He went on to make the national U17 squad in 2016 where they placed second behind Bermuda in the U17 World Cup Qualifiers, CFU leg.

In 2017 he penetrated onto the senior team of GMC. They won the Gros Islet Football League Promotional Cup, placed third in the National President’s Cup and won the Gros Islet Football League District Cup for the first time.

The year 2017 ended well for Ribot, when he championed his team to win the Inaugural Commonwealth Beach Soccer Gold Medal for St Lucia in the Bahamas.

Ribot was sent for try-outs with a new club just a few days after the U20 CONCACAF tournament where he was rather impressive. As a result, ADA decided to keep him until the end of the season.

At a recent press launch Ribot said. “I love football in a way that I do not even know how to explain. It helped me become the person I am today.”
