Former health Minister Mary Isaac has been lauded for her demonstrated “leadership in addressing the health challenges in Saint Lucia and the Sub-Region,” as well as for her “active participation in the governing bodies of PAHO and WHO.”
In her letter to Isaac, dated 9 September 2021, PAHO director Dr. Carissa F. Etienne also applauded the former health minister for her commitment to strengthening the health system with the Information Systems for Health Maturity Model assessment, and in developing the IS4H policy and data governance manual.
The PAHO official acknowledged Isaac’s “determination to ensure the Ministry of Health and Wellness increased its capacity to execute its essential public health functions and stewardship was noteworthy.” She described as “exemplary” the former minister’s work to keep Saint Lucians safe through the development of appropriate COVID-19 risk communication strategies and messages in response to the pandemic.
Finally congratulations were showered on the former government official for her implementation of the Public Health (Smoking Control) Regulations that established a smoking ban in enclosed pubic places, workplaces and on public transportation. “This notable accomplishment won Saint Lucia WHO’s 2021 World No Tobacco Day Award in the Americas,” Director Etienne confirmed.
