St Lucian netballers win Tri Series

Most Valuable Player of the Series St Lucia’s Judy Mathurin.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]eam St Lucia had a very successful outing at the recent Tri Series in Grenada involving the host and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

They lost only one game in the double round robin tournament, to emerge winners. They were followed by St Vincent and the Grenadines who registered two losses and Grenada registering three loses.

In their first encounter, Team St Lucia defeated Grenada 45 – 31. The first half of the game was evenly poised, with St Lucia ahead in the first quarter 10 – 9, and subsequently at the half 20 – 19. However, by the end of the third quarter they were comfortably ahead 32 – 24.

The final quarter, saw St Lucia cementing their position to emerge victorious 45 – 31.

In game two, St Vincent and the Grenadines got the better of host Grenada 59 – 54 in a close encounter.

Team St. Lucia’s final game in the first round was against St Vincent and the Grenadines. After ending the first half slightly ahead 26 – 24, Team St Lucia went into overdrive to seal the initiative 58 – 42, after ending the third quarter 41 – 33.

In the second round of the tournament, St Lucia maintained their winning streak as they soundly defeated Grenada 49 – 37. They led throughout 12 – 10, 24 – 19 and 35 – 29.

Playing the final game of the tournament, Team St Lucia succumbed to St Vincent and the Grenadines in a hard fought encounter 51 – 46. They led 10 – 6 at the end of the first quarter, while trailing 22 – 21 at the end of the half. They clawed back to level the scores 33 – 33 at the end of the third quarter but in the end wilted.

The final game of the tournament resulted in Grenada defeating St Vincent and the Grenadines 53 – 52.

Judy Mathurin was adjudged St Lucia’s Most Valuable Player of the Series.
