St Lucia readies for hurricane season

St Lucia is still trying to recover from the passage of Hurricane Tomas last year.

Today marked the start of the Atlantic Hurricane which ends November 30th.

The National Emergency Management Organization had warned individuals and their families to “resolve to be ready” this hurricane season.

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) has launched a preparedness website to help you accomplish that goal at www.weready.org

The website features a number of hazards that the Caribbean is vulnerable to including hurricanes, as well as tools to help execute crucial preparedness tasks such as assembling an emergency kit, formulating an individual and family plan and staying informed.

The following are the Hurricane names for 2011:

Cindy
Don
Emily

In the event that more than 21 named hurricanes occur in the Atlantic in a season, additional storms will take names from the Greek alphabet: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, etc.
