Vieux Fort Comprehensive reached the finals of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Under-15 Cricket Tournament, when they defeated the Seventh Day Adventist Academy (SDA) by six wickets at the Gros Islet Playing Field on Friday.
Batting first SDA scored 149 runs for nine in 34 wickets with a healthy contribution of 75 extras. Devourn Pierre scored 21, Brendob Monrose 20 not out, Anil Charles 11 and Shem Cazaubon 10.
Bowling for Vieux Fort, Jonathan Paul snagged four for 26; Alikan Joseph three for 18 and Denzil James two for 39.
At their turn at the crease, Vieux Fort made light work of their target coasting to victory in 19.2 overs. Leading the way were Zachary Edmund with 54 runs and Denzil James with 33.
Shem Thomas picked all four wickets for SDA at a cost of 30 runs.
Congratulations to the boys from South who were the losing finalists to Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School in 2010. Let’s hope they can go a notch higher this year.
In the other semi- final played at the Mindoo Phillip Park on the same day, St Mary’s College (SMC) defeated Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS) in a very exciting encounter by one wicket.
Taking first knock CCSS were in some bother at 31 for three. However, a stubborn partnership of 56 runs between Nick Elibox 30 and Stewart Calderon 29 helped them reach a respectable total of 139 runs in 37.2 overs.
In the bowling department Kester Charlemagne picked up four for 21 in eight overs.
In their reply, SMC were tottering at 10 for three with their leading run scorer Charlery back in the pavilion. However, they were able to establish partnerships along the way and were able to squeeze home in the 38th over scoring 140 for nine.
Kegan Patrick top scored with 27 runs, while Kester Charlemagne chipped in with 14.
The pick of the bowlers for CCSS were Herelle three for 18; Stewart Calderon two for seven and Nick Elibox two for 36.
Congratulations to the Samarians for advancing to the finals. The stage is now set for the grand final between Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary and SMC, being played today (Wednesday) from 10 am at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
