On Tuesday April 26th, 2016 the eager form 4 students of the Vieux Fort Secondary School visited the STAR Publishing. Over forty energetic and curious students were in attendance with two teachers. The group was hosted by the editor Toni Nicholas, who introduced them to the process of compiling the Star newspaper on a weekly basis.
The students’ visit was in preparation for an exercise where they will be required to write letters to the editor expressing their concerns on various issues.
The group was given a tour of the premises giving them a first hand look at the operations where, besides the newspaper, Tropical Traveller and She Caribbean are produced.
While they may have arrived void of the inside knowledge about the operation of a media house, they certainly left with a vast wealth of information as well as the encouragement by the editor to read and spend less time idling on social media.
