Special Olympics Staint Lucia is the recognised body for providing year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual difficulties.
The objective is to ensure that they are provided opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other special Olympic athletes and the community.

The games open officially on Sunday July 26th and are described as a way to open eyes, to change attitudes and to break down barriers that exclude people with intellectual difficulties from the mainstream of community. The games will also provide a venue for global discussions and action on the impact Special Olympics can have on the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.
