SUPER J SUPPORTS FIRE VICTIMS

Through the kind offices of Volunteer Saint Lucia, a caring corporate citizen has come to the aid of families affected by a recent fire in the southern town of Vieux Fort. The families were presented with bags of groceries at a brief ceremony on Thursday, August 6, 2015.

On July 26, 2015, the blaze destroyed five houses and damaged a sixth in the Westall Group community, better known as the Mangue, leaving several families displaced.

Thursday’s presentation ceremony was held at the recently reopened Super J Supermarket on New Dock Road. On behalf of the management and staff of Consolidated Foods Limited, Volunteer Saint Lucia coordinator Cyril Saltibus and Super J New Dock Road store manager Lea St Clair handed over bags of groceries responding to an appeal by Member of Parliament for Vieux Fort South and Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony.

According to representatives of the families, the groceries will go a long way, as they are all staying with friends and family. But Anya Edwin, secretary to the National Volunteer Coordination Organisation, says there is still a great need for the local private sector and the remainder of the citizenry to provide further support.

Said Ms. Edwin, “I would like to thank Super J and Consolidated Foods Limited. I also make a special appeal to those other persons in the business community and Saint Lucia at large to donate whatever items they have that they can to help the victims get back on their feet.”
