Supermoto – exciting start to the motocross season

Riders accelerate from the starting line across from the Government Buildings.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he supermoto event on Sunday at the Castries Waterfront marks the start of The St Lucia Moto X Club motocross season, which ends in December. If Sunday’s spectacular show was any indication, it should be one heck of season for the club under the direction of President Terrol Compton.

Sunday’s supermoto race lived up to everyone expectations. Spectators turned out in large numbers as usual supporting their favorite riders. The race day marshals did a brilliant job keeping the momentum going. Kids in the open class riders starting off the hype, our youngest rider being Junior Francois age seven riding bike number 8. While he did not make a podium finish, his skill, determination and share desire to win won the hearts of the appreciative crowd. He was flawless, not once did he fall, executing the corners and obstacles text book style. He displayed all the traits of a champion in the making.

In an effort to make the races more competitive class ‘B’ and class ‘A’ riders were joined with class ‘A’ riders starting from the back, resulting in upping the performance of the ‘B’ class riders, who by all accounts from Sunday’s race proved that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Christian Eudoxie (#110) and Rossi McLean (#46) maneuver around a tight turn.

The bragging rights have now started.

As if supermoto was not enough, spectators were treated to the best of motorcycle and quad skills from both our local and foreign guests. It was an afternoon to remember, long after our guests have left our shores.

An executive member of the club was quoted as saying, ‘if you think supermoto was worth giving up your Sunday afternoon for, motocross will have you addicted.”

The curtains finally came down with a mini carnival setting thanks to ‘Joe Knows’ mobile sounds.
