Saint Lucian swimmers managed two medals and ten national age group records at Trinidad and Jamaica meets last weekend
At the ASATT Invitational meet held in Trinidad, Saint Lucia had three clubs represented – Southern Flying Fish, Sharks and Racers – all under watchful eye of Coach Jamie Peterkin.
Jyasi Daniel captured the only individual medal being a Bronze in 50m Butterfly age group 13-14.
The Sharks Swim Club won Silver in 200m Medley Relay age group 11-12 comprising Eden Crick, Zanaii Taylor, Katelin Samuel and Crystal Moncherry in a time of 2:32:30.
Also congratulations to Stefon Emmanuel of Southern Flying Fish who established a new Age Group Record in 15-17 Boys 200m Breast.
It was a very challenging meet which featured 380 swimmers from 31 clubs, including clubs from UK and Sweden:
In other news, Saint Lucia’s Ethan Dyke Elliott of Sea Jays Swim Club swam in Kingston, Jamaica at the Christmas Open Swimming Championships. In that competition he demolished a phenomenal nine age group records.
Dyke Elliott was the top 10 year-old swimmer and was always up against the 12 year olds in the age group. But that didn’t stop him. Dyke Elliott had nine swims, had nine personal best swims and set nine St Lucia national age group records Long Course. Along the way the talented swimmer achieved his third CARIFTA 2014 qualifying time.
The 400m Free was an open event with Dyke Elliott being the only 10 year old competing against 26 swimmers.
His Sea Jays coach Norm Banfield was elated as this was a difficult meet for a 10 year old to be in, without any compatriots from St Lucia. Nevertheless he stood up and performed at an outstanding level.
