This ‘Beast’ is still the best

No doubt about it Velda John of Vel’s Gym had a leg up on the competition.

They call him the “Beast” and boy did he live up to it, devouring the competition at Saturday’s Independence Bodybuilding Competition at the National Cultural Centre.
Despite the fact he was in seclusion from bodybuilding having not competed since 2008, Rolandson “The Beast” Auguste pounced on the stage like he never left. He displayed a magnificent physique from top to bottom, that won him the senior division and overall title.
For Auguste it felt great being back on stage. Although he admitted to being just a bit rusty, his confidence factor was sky high.
We haven’t seen the last for the Beast which is bad news for competitors. He’s back, but then again judging by his performance its tough believing he ever left.
His nearest competitor at the show sponsored by Body Master, was the man who won the last bodybuilding show here
St George Prospere. This time around he was second best, with third place going to the vastly improved Oswald Richardson, who moved up to the senior ranks to face the big boys after winning the Intermediate class.
The Intermediate class was a highly competitive and entertaining affair. In winning that division, Richardson had his hands full going up against the ever popular Jean Claude John, Kurt Walcott and Alvin Remy.

Ronaldson “The Beast” Auguste was in devastating form.

Judges must have had a hard time deciding between Richardson and John. Both men were not overly muscular but finely tuned. Richardson won this division, but John who played up to the audience was by far the most charismatic performer that evening. John got some measure of revenge when he received the People’s Choice Award from Minister of Tourism, Lorne Theophilus. Walcott finished third with Remy fourth.
In the Novice division, Adolphus Antoine was declared the winner even before he made his appearance. That’s because he was the only competitor in this class.
In the Ladies Figure competition, with Velda John of Vel’s Gym in the house, it was a battle for second place. Didn’t matter to John, she regarded her opponents as rivals and held nothing back. She strutted on stage with a fiery red bikini with silver highlights matching earrings, silver high heels and a tattoo on her right shoulder with the inscription “Total Fitness.” A shapely Claudia Edward placed second with statuesque Vivia Liasson third.
