A riveting examination of the connections between contemporary demagogue figures and their mythic equivalents, crucially placed within the historical process thereby suturing such dichotomies as our societies have allowed to fester such as 'reality' versus myth, reality versus imagination etc. Interestingly, we have had our own figures of this nature in the Caribbean as well who warrant further study, and this form of critical analysis is apposite in understanding such figures. The most glaring example of course would be the Duvalier years in Haiti, in which such a connection as is made here was incarnate. Papa Doc, impersonated in dress and speech, Baron Samedi, and his henchmen, known as the Tonton Makout, bore likeness in dress to a bogeyman figure from Haitian folklore. The assumption by these powerful political figures with deities, daemons and other spiritual figures do not constitute mere metaphorical connections they are painstakingly making, but actual does enact a possession similar to how this article frames the rise of Trump. Wyatt MacGaffey spoke of how Chiefs in Congo for instance were expected to be witches, and to sometimes devour their kinsmen at night. Part of their power WAS an awareness of this power.

This article reminds us of these serious connections, and what's more is that it gives it to use as process, as part of the warp and weft of disaster that is part of the history's embroidery. The Trump phenomenon, whether or not he wins the Republican nomination, is a dangerous one, and one that is manifest already in the geopolitics of America. And given how we have been historically concatenated to particular places upon a kind of palimpsest of the middle passage, America remains a place to which we are interminably bound. There are great implications for us. This article is an insightful initiation expanding the epistemic parameters of our understanding and discussions of it.

The words of Jesus the son of God the Father.

Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.
Are ye not much better than they?
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his statue?
And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or wherewithal shall we be clothed?
For your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew6:26-33

The glory belongs to you Father God because you deserve it all and we just want to thank you for everything in Jesus' name.
