Veterans Football kicks off in Mabouya Valley

A glimpse of the official opening of last year’s Veterans Football Tournament at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.

The 2013 Veterans Football Tournament with the theme “Ready to Play Ready to Sweat,” officially kicks off on Sunday at the La Ressource Playing Field in Mabouya Valley.

The action gets underway with a Playoff Festival Socerramma, where four teams from this festival qualify for the tournament, which kicks off October 13 at the Beausejour Cricket  Ground.

Seven teams namely La Clery, Prophets and Kings, Spartans and Anse La Raye, who will comprise the northern zone and Mabouya Valley, Vieux Fort North and Desruisseaux who will make up the southern zone, play 40 minute matches on a round robin basis in the two zones. The top two from each zone qualify for participation in the tournament.

The day’s action is set to start at 9.00 am and continue throughout culminating about 5:00 pm.

The schedule for the day’s activity is as follows:  Match one, Prophets and Kings vs Anse La Raye; followed by Spartans vs La Clery, Vieux Fort North vs Desruisseaux,  LA Clery vs Anse La Raye, Spartans vs Prophets and Kings, Mabouya Valley vs Desruisseaux, La Clery vs Prophets and Kings, Spartans vs Anse La Raye, Mabouya Valley vs Vieux Fort North.

All participating teams in the competition are asked to be at the venue for 9.00 am on the day. All team members are also required to bring a form of identification to verify that they are eligible to play in the veterans tournament for 2013.
