VSADC Academy reopens

Action from Saturday’s mini football festival between NYAH (white top) and VSADC on the SAB Playing Field.

The VSADC Football Academy marked the opening of the 2011 season with the hosting of a mini football festival on Saturday at the SAB Sporting Facility. The football festival saw the VSADC Youth teams take on arch rival NYAH in three friendly matches.

In the Under 12 category NYAH won 3 goals to 1. The Under 14 game was played to a 1 all draw.

The featured match of the day was an Under-17 clash. NYAH got the better of their rivals by a score of 2 goals to 1. NYAH led for most of the encounter and a late goal from VSADC did not interrupt their dominance.

After the matches, players from both teams were treated to refreshments and snacks courtesy of the VSADC Youth Academy.

During the 2011 season, the VSADC Football Academy intends to organize a mini football festival at the end of each month at different locations around the island.

The highlight of the afternoon was the recognition of VSADC youth player Nusym Prospere. He received a lap top computer by benefactor Errol Charles, who is a long standing club member and contributor to the academy.

The lap top was a reward for Prospere’s outstanding performance at last year’s Common Entrance Examination where he obtained a mark of 93.6. The awarding of a prize for academic achievement is in keeping with the academy’s philosophy, that academics and athletic achievement are complimentary in the development of a well rounded individual.
Regular academy sessions continue at the SAB Sporting Facility on Saturdays with sessions for the Under-12 from 10am-11am, Under-14 from 10am-11:30am and Under-17 from 11am to 1 pm. Sessions for the Under- 17 are also held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm-6:30 pm.
