[dropcap]P[/dropcap]olice investigations into the alleged operations of Verna Augustin, believed to have been a member of “the Graveyard crew,” has come to an abrupt halt following her death this week. Augustin, 24, a resident of Wilton’s Yard in Castries, was fatally shot on Wednesday. According to sources in National Security ministry “the police were preparing to execute a search of her premises the very morning she was killed.”
The suspicion was that the deceased had been “the ring leader in a number of Castries burglaries.” Our sources cited a break-in at the Baywalk Mall that yielded some $25,000. Reliable sources told the STAR that police were investigating the possibility that Augustin’s death resulted from a gang-related feud. Reportedly, she lost a brother in a similar feud some years ago. Another brother is currently serving time in a Martinique prison. Augustin’s death brings to 26 the number of homicides so far this year.
Also on Wednesday the body of Urban Charleston Kangal was discovered in Duggard, Micoud. He had suffered several wounds to his arm and legs. At press time cause of death has not been officially announced. However the authorities have indicated a male individual is currently in custody assisting with their investigations. Also fatally shot on Wednesday was 25-year-old Christopher Williams of Bisee. There has been no related arrest.
