Ah! if only we could see past red and yellow in this country a whole lot would be different. If we were born color blind in St.lucia I think our country would be a lot better and people would demand more accountability from people in public office. How many times after that dreadful incident was John Compton re elected as prime minister? How many times since then have the police continued to murder our citizens and not held accountable?

Even in death politicians want you to see them as a God, you worship Compton with that idiotic statue because even after his death he controls and still rules over you, your other leader Mugabe is worse, even after destroying the economy he wants every penny in your pocket, I have nightmares imagining what his big belly statue is going to look like, you will need two tonnes of cement for his gut alone.

Before I left the scene people were just milling around and some of the young guys were occasionally having some banter with the cops. There were no arrests or even a caution issued then. That all changed of course after the arrival of the SSU. These guys just completely lost the plot I’m afraid.

and for a bit of fun :). It was all quite peaceful – except for the the “pas coupe” shouts whenever we encountered anyone or drove past a neighbourhood 🙂

The following day, as has been reported, was just tragic. I was in another part of the Valley when I heard of Appie’s death. It was just surreal and chiling. One other clubmate was shot through the inner thigh on the Morne Panache Road while seeking safety. Another buddy from Gardette (a registered farmer) was sprayed in the back with a shotgun blast near the entrance to the Grande Riviere School while fleeing from the scene.

Ahhh! Good piece Rick. It brought back some memories – both good and horrible. Just a correction. Julius (Appie) Joseph was not just a “farmhand” he was a genuine registered farmer with a grower’s card issued by the SLBGA.

Some of my clubmates and me were part of the protest the night before. After a club meeting we hopped on a pick-up truck and joined some other protesters who were leaving the Valley to spread the “pas coupe” message to our neighbours across the Barre de L’isle. Julius was a member of my club – our goalkeeper actually. I can’t recall whether he went with us that night. There were other registered farmers in the club and the rest of us went in solidarity…
