Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort Celebrates 15 Years Offering Scholarships to Schoolchildren Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort Celebrates 15 Years Offering Scholarships to Schoolchildren

The importance of education is now being promoted and prioritised worldwide more than ever. Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort in St Lucia is aware of this and has been offering scholarships for the last 15 years to children aged between 11 and 13. The resort aims to ensure that the recipients receive the high quality education they deserve.

Windjammer Landing is one of the few beach resorts in the world to provide local children with a scholarship to enhance their education. This year, the resort will present 17 talented children with bursaries, aiding them to excel further in their secondary school education.

Due to the competitiveness of the scholarship, Windjammer Landing bases its selection process on an examination pass rate system. All children between the ages of 11 and 13 are invited to sit the ‘End of Term Examination’ after which the students with the highest marks are considered for the scholarship. To ensure that the students are educated in a range of disciplines, the examination comprises subjects from the schools’ curriculum including: English Language, Maths, Essay Writing and Comprehension. As an incentive, as well as a reward, Windjammer Landing provides a scholarship grant of $1,000 annually to the chosen children.

The scholarship provides all of its recipients with the opportunity for work experience at the resort during their tenure. Upon completion of the school programme, the scholarship also opens up a number of career opportunities for the children as they go on to work in various industries including medicine and hospitality. Previous scholarship students have impressed Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort so much that they have been employed to work at the resort.

Hugh Fontenelle, Human Resources Director at Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort, commented: “It is an honour for us to assist these talented young individuals when receiving an education which aids them in fulfilling their dreams. By investing in these children we are helping our community to which they contribute their invaluable skills and services. We are very proud of what our students have accomplished so far and wish them all the success in the future.”
