The St Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) continued its preparation of the senior National Women’s Cricket Team by engaging in two practice matches last weekend.
On Saturday, the ladies played a 40 overs match against the Gros Islet Under-19 lads. Winning the toss, Skipper Roylin Cooper elected to bat and the team posted a comfortable total of 178 all out.
Swaylin William topped scored with 38 while Yasmine St Ange had a brilliant knock of 31, Roylin Cooper 19, Teaddie Crawford 14, Paulina Francis 13 and Maria David 10, all significant contributors to the total.
Keagan, Simon and Carlton Edmund each captured two wickets with support from Naithurm, Henry and Boyce who picked up one wicket each.
The Under-19 boys could only manage 118 all out in 38 overs.
On Sunday in a keenly contested T/20 encounter, again the females batted first and were restricted to 117 for seven.
Mc Phee bowled extremely well to pick up two for 19 supported by Carlton Edmund with two for 14 and Boyce with two for 21. Henry and Kegan both grabbed a wicket, Chemeka Abraham 19, Yasmine St Ange 17, Swaylin William 16 and Julia Simon 10. They were the main contributors.
The Gros Islet Under-19 team cruised to victory by scoring 118 for six with three overs to spare.
This year both the 50 overs (ODI) and T/20 format will be played on various playing fields in Grenada who is the host Country. Other participating territories are St Lucia, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, St Vincent and Dominica. It has been 25 years since St Lucia participated in this regional tournament.
The St Lucia National Women’s Cricket Team selected to participate in the WICB Regional Tournament are: Roylin Cooper (Captain), Yasmine St Ange (Vice Captain), Nerissa Crafton, Paulina Francis, Chemika Abraham, Teaddie Crawford, Maria David, Julia Simon, Hiedi Sandiford, Alaxandra Louisy, Sadisha Elizee, Brendalie Alcide Weeks, Nicole St Prix and Solange Aubert.
The team will be under the watchful eyes of former West Indies player Philippa Thomas Eudovic as Coach and former West Indies All-rounder Eugena Gregg as Manager.
