Two of St Lucia’s top amateur boxers are busy preparing for their participation at the World Amateur Boxing Championships to be held in Almaty, Kazakstan next month, and for a preparatory camp prior to the championships to be held in Almaty as well from the end of this month.

The two boxers who will attend the preparatory camp ahead of the World Amateur Boxing championships are British based heavyweight Ryan Charles and Light welterweight Lyndell “The Russian” Marcellin. They both recently participated in the AMBC Continental championships in Chile, where they lost their bouts to Canadian opponents.

Charles and Marcellin who will be accompanied by Coach Conrad Fredericks,  will attend the preparatory camp from September 29 to October 11 then, participate in the World Amateur Boxing championships from October 11-26.

St Lucia’s participation at the preparatory camp and World Amateur Boxing Championships is taken care of by AIBA, which is the International body responsible for amateur boxingI

In other news, The St Lucia Amateur Boxing Association is calling on all other boxers locally to continue attending training sessions regularly, as there are a number of upcoming events in the region our boxers have been invited to. The association is looking into the possibility of fielding teams for these events, among them The Ronald Wilson Memorial Tournament in Barbados and an invitation from Guyana to participate in a pro am event there.

St Lucia’s boxers have had an outstanding 2013 winning both the OECS Boxing championships and Creole Boxing championships held here earlier this year.
